Five years ago I was at a scrapbook retreat with my girlfriends in New Jersey. And I was doing something that I loved on my scrapbook pages — PAPER PIECING. Putting together a picture, using multiple colors of cardstock, chalking the edges and assembling it like the Jolee’s things are now.
Why did I stop doing that? When did ‘cute’ die on my scrapbook pages? My kids are still little. I think I need to celebrate the messy and cute style a bit more. Or is that what the freestyle movement is all about? Because all I see is MESS when I look at those pages. I like the altered style and layering – but I’ve yet to fall in love with my own handwriting. Sorry, Heidi Swapp — the book didn’t work. LOL! I just recently purchased another handwriting book though — more academic. I’m going to give it another try.
Today’s doodling craze is reminiscent of the hand lettering and doodling that I was teaching back then. Perhaps even 6 years ago. I had to have every Zig Scroll and Brush pen color! Isn’t it funny how things come back around? Back then it was Susy Ratto’s Brush Lettering and Simple Steps by Annemarie Seidel. I loved those books. I’m going to dust them off.
What was your favorite scrapbooking craze or style? Dust it off and give it a whirl.
