Always and Forever Valentine Heart Wall Hanging

My funny Valentine is off at a soccer tournament with my oldest this weekend, so I am taking the time to get some things together for when he gets home.  I am making his favorite cheesecake, some cookies and this little wallhanging with the title to a favorite song.

The project started with this wood heart from Hobby Lobby. It’s about 12″ x 12″.

First I applied heavy gel medium to the surface with a paint brush and adhered a sheer, silver-printed tissue paper over the top. It’s easy to rip the excess and sand around the edges for the perfect fit.

Then I stamped the ‘Travel Documents’ background from my Palettini line, made exclusively for Technique Junkies, with archival black ink onto the surface.  I rotated the stamp, and sometimes did not reink in-between impressions to get a nice blended background.

Then I painted a heart onto the left hand side, with two colors of Art Anthology Velvet paint, in Persimmon and Wineberry.

Next I brushed on Art Anthology Mayan Gold velvet paint in from the edges…

followed by a light application of Art Anthology’s Aloha velvet paint, lightly overlapping the Mayan Gold to blend the colors. I also outlined the heart with Black Leather Jacket sorbet paint, with a little bit of Big Dip o’ Ruby sorbet paint around the edges for some sparkle.

Next I applied some Drab sorbet paint, blending out about an inch all the way around the heart to give it some dimension.

I sprayed over the entire project lightly with Warm Colorations Spray, also from Art Anthology. I love how it looks. It is my go-to finishing color.

I attached some chipboard letters, painted with Black Leather Jacket sorbet paint. Here are some close-up photos so you can see how textured it is.

Finally, I adhered a black felt applique from my old Prima stash, to the edge of the heart and threaded a ribbon through the wood to allow it to hang on the front door. Lucky for me, there is a glass storm door as well to protect it from the elements. A nice welcome home for my Valentine.
