My project for today is known as a scrapbook in a box. It's a great way to give not only a journaling and/or picture gift, but since it folds up into a box, you can place a present for the recipient in the center as well! My project is for Mother's Day.
Remove the lid to see the inner pages.
And let them lay out flat so you can flip through them individually. Here are a couple of shots of the interior.
I also misted over all surfaces lightly with the three colors. The Sweet Pea and Olive Vine in opposite sections and then to mimic the Flirty Little Secret papers, I emptied out most of my Patina Glimmer Mist so it would 'spurt' out instead of giving me a fine mist. I wanted big droplets of that color in an uneven pattern. Just make sure you've got it all mixed up before you start emptying things out and vice versa.
If you haven't made one of these before, the process is really easy.
The base piece (outside of the box) is 12×12. Each subsequent layer is 1/4" small on two sides than the last layer.
Cut one piece to 11 3/4" x 11 3/4". One to 11 1/2" x 11 1/2". One to 11 1/4" x 11 1/4".
Measuring 4" FROM THE EDGE, score the papers on each side. Measure from the edge inwards. Score according to this picture.
Cut out the corner pieces. Your piece of paper should now look like this. I painted the watercolor Paintables with a waterbrush and my three selected colors of Glimmer Mist.
If you want to be more 'fancy' you can use one of the following diagrams I created to make flaps and/or pockets for your pieces, instead of simply cutting out the corners. Here are four different configuration diagrams inside for triangle pockets and flap folds for inspiration.
Also, here is a great explanation on how to make the lid from the fabulous Nona Davenport: http://www.momentsofyourheart.com/Nona.html.
Materials:
- Four 12×12 pieces of paper for the 'box' portion
- I used Artful Cardboard for the base of my box, followed by
- Stitched Mulberries paper
- Flirty Little Secret cardstock
- Watercolor Paintable
- I selected a flocked paper from the Flirty Little Secret collection
- Glimmer Mist colors:
- Sweet Pea (pink)
- Twilight and Patina (blues)
- Olive Vine (green)
- Festive Flowers, White
- Woodstock Flowers, cherry
- Artful Collage Leaves
These are a lot of fun to make – and once you've made one… you'll be addicted!
Thanks for looking.
